Reasons why children must be encouraged to ask ‘why?.’

Children are gifted with natural and unrelenting curiosity.
“Why do snails hide?”, “Why do snakes have no legs??”, “Where do we come from?”, “Where do we go when we die?” are just a few of the questions young children keep asking.

People think that children are just innocent and cute, that they do not understand things deeply or even remember them completely. But that is untrue. From personal experience, the desire to learn that I have today is because of the way I was handled in my early years.

We all know stories of storks bringing babies, of children falling from the sky into their parents’ arms. How Jimmy the cat fell into a deep sleep and went into the ground so as to not be disturbed.

Birth and Death are difficult to explain, I agree. It’s best though, if children were given simple and honest answers on these topics. You may think, “They’re so young! They can’t handle it!” It’s understandable you don’t want to traumatize them.

But surprisingly, they are stronger and wiser than you think. It is scientifically proven that children from the age group of 2-5 years, have fully developed brains ,like that of an adult.

What’s amazing is the fact that a 2-year-old has almost trillions of neural connections; double that of an adult brain. All sense of feelings, communication and behavioural patterns is established by the age of 5!

This is why it is so important to engage and encourage a child’s curiosity. Choosing a school that empowers their curiosity is all that it takes to help the young ones grow to their maximum potential. Often, asking too many questions has resulted in many a bright child being shunned and shut down; dampening their curiosity to learn new things.

The ‘why’ question, must be appreciated at School, as in some of the best CBSE Schools in Bangalore. This ensures a resolute sense of self-belief in the child. Look to place your young ones in such schools, as you can be sure, that here your child will grow and remain curious regarding the mysteries of life.

Here at St. Andrews School, Whitefield, we focus on just that. With state of the art Digital Classrooms and ingenious ways of teaching, we look to provide the best for our curious little young-lings right from the beginning. Dedication to develop our children right from their early years is our sole mission.

In conclusion, as beautifully said by Albert Einstein,

Do not grow old no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the Great Mystery into which we were born.
